Waikato Thoroughbred Racing (WTR) is proud to once again support Cambridge Riding for the Disabled (RDA) through its annual Cambridge RDA Raceday, taking place on Wednesday, 18 June 2025 on the Cambridge Synthetic track.
Now in its fifth year, this special race meeting has become a much-anticipated fixture on the local racing and fundraising calendar, combining the thrill of racing with the power of community generosity.
In 2024, the event raised nearly $25,000 for the Cambridge charity and this year, WTR hopes to match or exceed that total to continue to make a real difference to the lives of those in the local community.
“The Cambridge RDA Raceday is one of the most rewarding events on our calendar,” said Andy Cruickshank, COO of Waikato Thoroughbred Racing. “It’s a day when the wider racing fraternity comes together not just for the love of racing, but to give back to an organisation that makes an extraordinary difference in people’s lives. We’re proud to continue to facilitate this day, having been started by Cambridge Jockey Club prior to the merger, and to help raise vital funds for a cause that resonates so strongly in our community.”
WTR’s role includes sourcing individual race sponsors and coordinating on-course fundraising opportunities including the sale of racebooks and pens. Meanwhile, the Cambridge RDA team – supported by their beloved miniature pony Marvellous Monty – will be out in force on the day collecting donations and spreading smiles.
“We are so grateful to Waikato Thoroughbred Racing for their continued support,” said Sam Ogden of Cambridge RDA. “The funds raised at this raceday are vital to our operations. They help keep our programmes running, our horses happy and healthy, and our riders progressing. Plus, it’s just such a fun day. There’s nothing like the energy of the track, and our volunteers love being part of it.”
Attendees can expect a vibrant afternoon of entertainment, including thrilling live racing, hospitality, and a dose of midweek fun – all in support of a meaningful cause. Gates open at 11:30am, with the first race at 12:00pm, and a gold coin donation is requested on entry.
“Whether you’re a racing fan, a supporter of RDA, or just looking for a great reason to get out of the office on a Wednesday, this is a day not to be missed,” added Cruickshank. “Bring your team, bring your friends – and bring a few coins to contribute to the cause.”
