Bonnard Impresses Ahead of Agfirst Engineering Opunake Cup

Agfirst Engineering Opunake Cup favourite Bonnard caught the eye at this morning's trackwork, looking in excellent order ahead of this weekend's feature. The mare was never asked for a serious effort, comfortably running home her final 600 metres in 41.2 seconds.

The Giggler also pleased, recording 39.9 for her final 600 metres, while the James & Wellwood-trained Group One-winning mare She's A Dealer looked magnificent despite only stretching out over her last 600 metres in a relaxed 44.9 as she builds toward her spring campaign.

Andrew Forsman had a sizeable team on the track, headed by Opunake Cup contender Mr Mojo Risin', who appeared ready for Saturday's assignment after working home in 40.1.

Others from the Forsman stable included:

  • Pocket Money – 39.9
  • Strathisla – 39.7
  • Madamanzor – 40.3
  • Baia Serena – 40.2
  • Adriatico – 41.2
  • Lassified – 39.4
  • Zippidy – 39.9

  • The Last Alliance – 40.1
  • Hard Roca – 39.9
  • Rambling On – 39.1
  • Boss Voss – 39.4
  • Rhaena – 40.2
  • Daena – 40.3

Tony Pike's Opunake Cup representative Thooza also looked in outstanding condition, finishing off her final 600 metres under a good hold in 40.2, suggesting she is right on target for Saturday.

Also working for the Pike stable was Astoria Brooke, who lines up in the final event at New Plymouth over 1800 metres on Saturday. She ran home her final 600 metres in 40.1.

Other notable gallops from the stable included:

  • Want More – 38.9
  • Pure Lotus – 38.7
  • Sugar Daddy – 39.7

Several horses from both leading stables produced sharp work, with Pure Lotus (38.7), Want More (38.9) and Quondo (38.9) among the quickest of the morning's gallopers, while Bonnard, Thooza and Mr Mojo Risin' all looked well on track for strong performances in the Agfirst Engineering Opunake Cup.
