Last season’s Champagne Stakes winner Incandescent stood out at Cambridge this morning, with the 3yo son of Per Incanto looking full of running as he eased through his final 600m in 41.6. He appears in good order heading into Saturday’s Race 4 at Ellerslie, the 3yo 1400m.

The James & Wellwood stable had several others on the track, including Fairy Dream, winner of the Desert Gold Stakes, who completed her work in 41.8 ahead of Race 7 at Ellerslie.

Arabian Songbird looked particularly sharp ahead of her weekend assignment in the Open 1400m, rattling off a slick 38.8 for her final 600m. The lightly raced 6yo mare has already recorded five wins from 11 starts and looks in excellent order as she bids to add another victory to her record.

The Spaniard, a 4yo son of Almanzor, also caught the eye, working home in 39.4, while recent trial placegetter Bellafiore completed her work in a quiet 41.2.

Stephen Marsh had a quieter morning with just a handful of gallopers, with trial-winning Per Incanto filly Acclivitous attracting attention as she prepares for her raceday debut at Ellerslie on Saturday. She was kept well within herself, running the final 600m in 46.4, and heads into her first start from barrier 4 with Michael McNab aboard.

Last-start winner Ignore Me Not is another Marsh runner heading into Saturday’s Race 4 and was also given an easy time, running home in 45.4. Ocean Rules, set for Race 9, completed similar work in 45.3, while Our Solana covered the final 600m in 45.7 ahead of Race 6.

So Fear, another Race 4 contender, rounded out the Marsh runners with a 45.1 final 600m.

Tony Pike’s Cannon Hill looked in terrific order ahead of his return in Saturday’s Open 1400m. The 6yo son of Almanzor, last seen finishing third in the Group Three Manco Easter Handicap, cruised through his final 600m in an easy 42.9.

Grocers Girl was equally impressive, working home in 42.8, while Justice For All finished nicely in 39.8. Intan and Taka Star matched strides to the line in a slick 38.9, rounding out a strong morning for the Pike team.
