Foxbridge Plate contender Churchillian looked ready for her weekend assignment with a pleasing final gallop at Cambridge this morning, the Tony Pike-trained mare working home in 41.9 for her last 600m. The classy mare has drawn the coveted inside barrier for Saturday's Group 2 feature at Te Rapa and will be partnered by Sam Collett.
Pike's other gallopers also pleased, with in-form mare Astoria Brooke running home in 40.9, Deep Pursuit recording 41.6, Cannon Hill 42.2, and Eluid, who heads to Hastings on Saturday, finishing off in 42.4.
Roger James and Robert Wellwood sent several runners over the back sand, headed by The Precursor, who worked over 1200m in 1:27, with his final 600m in 41.3. Pearling Crown impressed in 41.1, Dance The Night ran home in 40.8, while an unnamed Almanzor colt out of Zentessa caught the eye with a smart 40.9.
Stephen Marsh gave his Foxbridge Plate pair their final hit-outs, with Media World stopping the clock at 44.7 and Tardelli recording 44.8.
Marsh also had Shambo Jack, who lines up in the opening event at Te Rapa, looking stylish with a quiet 44.7. Fellow Te Rapa runner Genie worked home in 44.9, while Oberon, an acceptor for Race 6, recorded 45.1.
Jamaican Boy, trained by Crawford and a leading contender for the Ocean Park 2400m (Race 4) at Te Rapa, looked ready to perform with a strong 41.1 for his final 600m.
Andrew Forsman had a busy morning, with a large team stepping out. Stakes-winning mare Mary Shan looked in great order, running home in 41.2, while Elle Sourit, winner of four of her six race-day starts, clocked 42.4. In-form Wootton Bassett gelding Quondo, chasing four consecutive victories, worked home stylishly in 40.6.
Others to gallop from the Forsman stable included Rambling On (41.7), Zanzibar (42.9), Hard Roca (42.0), Chilling Out (42.1), Nambawan (41.6), Twilight Tale (41.7), Confianza (42.3), Wellesley Stakes winner Lassified (42.4), last-start winner Wanganella (41.9), Show Your Ace (42.9), Moonbeams (42.7), Madamanzor (43.0), Velcro (42.8), Zippidy (42.1), Wulver (42.1), Artissimo (41.7), and The Last Alliance (42.4).
Recent trial winners also impressed, with Rough 'N' Tough, a three-year-old by Circus Maximus, stopping the clock at 41.2. Rhaena, a Jon Snow filly, looked good in 41.7, while Savabeel fillies Baia Serena (41.2) and Molto Spirito (41.7) both worked pleasingly. Exceeding Joy, a trial placegetter in April, rounded out the morning with a smart 41.8.
