Cambridge trainers put the finishing touches on their weekend runners this morning, with several smart performances highlighting the session ahead of Saturday's meeting at Te Rapa and Sunday's fixture at Te Aroha.
Leading the way was the in-form Quondo, the well-performed Wootton Bassett three-year-old from the Andrew Forsman stable. Chasing a hat-trick of victories in Saturday's Property Brokers Taumarunui 3YO 1400, Quondo impressed with a smooth final 600m in 41.0.
Forsman's team was well represented throughout the morning. Feint To East, who contests the King Brown Shearing Mile at Te Rapa, worked home stylishly in 41.9, while Just Cruisin recorded 42.0. Rio Grande was one of the quickest workers of the morning, running his final 600m in 38.9.
Indian Ink and Molto Spirito paired up to record an excellent 38.3, while Septima continued her solid preparation with 39.0. Promising El Roca filly Black Diamond, placed in both of her race-day appearances, impressed with a slick 38.7 and shapes as a leading prospect in Race 3 at Te Aroha on Sunday over 1400 metres.
Shestheone and London Bound worked together from the 800 metres, matching strides to the line in 42.0, while the final Forsman galloper, talented Ocean Park mare Elle Sourit, looked in terrific order, striding out comfortably in 41.0. The mare has won four of her six career starts and appears to have returned in excellent condition.
From the James and Wellwood stable, The Giggler, another Te Rapa runner, pleased with a comfortable 40.0 for her final 600 metres.
Swiss Prince, a stakes winner during the spring and another starter in Saturday's Property Brokers Taumarunui 3YO, worked quietly in 44.5 and remains one to keep following. Fellow race contenders Brass Monkey, a last-start Tauranga winner, recorded 45.7, while Ashoka finished off in 44.2.
Stephen Marsh's promising North Pacific three-year-old Kahului, who lines up in the opening race at Te Rapa, clocked 44.6, while stablemate Oberon, engaged in Race 2, completed his work in 44.2.
Bright Thoughts, stepping up to the mile in Race 4, ran home in 44.9, while Paul Mirabelli-trained Compulsion produced a pleasing effort on the polytrack, recording a smart 39.4.
Tony Pike's team also had several runners in action. Sugar Daddy, who contests the final race at Te Rapa, looked well with a comfortable 43.8. Ryder Stakes filly Back Of The Bus worked alongside stablemate Shirase, the pair matching strides in 44.3.
Other Pike gallopers included High Country (42.4), Pink Gin (43.0), Libre (44.9), while Honey Honey and Truly Devine completed their work together in 44.3.
