Cambridge Trackwork

A quiet morning of gallops at Cambridge ahead of tomorrow's race meeting, which features the TAB Polytrack Championship over 2000m. Added excitement will come from an outstanding line-up of triallists before the races, highlighted by the much-anticipated return of Well Written, which is sure to attract plenty of attention.

Following a heavy frost, the polytrack provided trainers with an excellent galloping surface, and Tony Pike made the most of the conditions with a strong team of workers.

Leading the way was the 11-time winner and multiple stakes performer Churchchillian, who impressed running home in 38.4. Cannon Hill, last seen finishing third in the Manco Easter Handicap, cruised home in 38.6, while Astoria Brooke, who heads to Te Rapa on Saturday, looked in good order recording 39.4.

Slipper Island and stablemate Sacred Pursuit matched strides from the 800m, completing their final 600m in 38.9. Sugar Daddy ran the last 600m of his 1000m gallop in 39.4, while Sonic Pursuit and Deep Pursuit both returned 38.9. Frozen Fortune was one of the quicker workers of the morning, stopping the clock at 38.1 for the final 600m.

The final member of the Pike team to gallop, this time on the No. 3 grass, was Eluid, who heads to Te Rapa on Saturday. He worked home in 39.4 and appears to be in excellent order for his weekend assignment.

Also on the grass, the Tim and Margaret Carter-trained Casa Rubick completed his work stylishly in 39.8.

Stephen Marsh had just two runners galloping on the polytrack, with Oberon recording 43.4 and Kahului 43.3.

Elsewhere, Westend Girl (Wiles) cruised home in 39.8, while Dare You (Rees) caught the eye with one of the fastest closing sectionals of the morning, running home in a slick 37.9.
