Andrew Forsman is getting ready to unleash his spring team, with a strong line-up of exciting gallopers stepping out on the Cambridge tracks this morning.
On the back sand, five-time winner Hinekaha caught the eye, working home the final 600m in a sharp 39.2. The Savabeel mare looks to be coming to hand nicely for her spring campaign. Exciting Ocean Park mare Elle Sourit also looked on the right path, finishing stylishly in 38.9, while five-time winner Mary Shan recorded 39.7.
Four-time winner Quondo, who has won his last three starts, looked in excellent order, closing in 38.4, while the ever-consistent Morning Cocoa worked home in 39.8.
On the front sand, Karapiro Classic runner-up Rambling On looked good in a quiet piece of work, finishing in 41.8. Savabeel mare Twilight Tale worked stylishly in 41.4, while last season’s Wellesley Stakes winner Lassified looked in great order, completing her work in 40.7.
Promising Savabeel mare Chilling Out cruised home in 41.9, with Madammanzor clocking 42.1, Velcro39.4, Queen Mab 39.7, Moonbeams 41.3, Vitalize40.8, Chaos Creator 40.9, and good-looking One Too Many stopping the clock in 41.4.
The in-form Mirabelli stable produced Chicflix, with the Sacred Falls mare recording a smart 39.2.
One of the standout gallops of the morning came from the James/Wellwood stable, with Incandescent closing his final 600m in an impressive 38.0 on the back sand. The three-year-old son of Per Incanto was last seen winning the Listed Champagne Stakes and looks to have returned in terrific order ahead of Saturday’s Ellerslie 3YO 1400m.
Also representing the James/Wellwood team was Group Three Desert Gold Stakes winner Fairy Dream, who recorded 39.0 for her final 600m. Following a recent winning trial, she looks set to kick off her new season at Ellerslie on Saturday.
Five-time winner Arabian Songbird, who lines up in Race 8 at Ellerslie, ran home in 39.1, while Waimea Bay clocked 41.2 and recent trial winner Celebrate Now cruised home in 41.0. Jomara Bloodstock’s Shore Breeze, engaged in Race 1 at Ellerslie, also impressed, finishing in 38.9.
Tony Pike had a quieter morning, with the striking grey Del Inquent looking good while running home in 38.9. Grocer’s Girl recorded 39.2, with the Tarzino filly looking a strong chance in Race 3 at Ellerslie on Saturday. Arthur ran 39.8, while Youmeandtuscany and Countach matched strides to record 38.9.
Te Aroha-bound jumper Star Warrior, who is set to make his jumping debut in Friday’s maiden chase at Te Aroha, ran home in 42.6 on the Polytrack. Another from the Dean Wiles stable, Westend Girl, came home in 42.4.
From the Stephen Marsh stable, recent Group One placegetter Media World stepped out on the back sand and worked home stylishly in 40.2. Kiwi Skyhawk recorded 41.9, Mulan Ardeche cruised home in 42.1, while promising Savabeel mare Glance looked in good order, finishing in 41.6.
Ocean Rules, engaged in Race 9 at Ellerslie, recorded 41.7, with recent trial winner Navy Dreams catching the eye with a strong 40.1. So Fear stopped the clock in 40.9, while Los Salsero recorded 41.3.
On the front sand, four-time winner Ardalio worked home quietly in 43.9, while Erin Go Bragh finished stylishly in 40.3. La Diem, last seen finishing runner-up in the Group Three Trelawney Stud Championship, ran her final 600m in 40.9.
El Arish, engaged in Race 7 at Ellerslie, stopped the clock at 40.5 and is set to race on Saturday. Home Affairs three-year-old filly Tempo Veloce ran her final 600m in 40.7, while Our Solana, an entrant for Ellerslie on Saturday, recorded 41.6.
Last-start winner Ignore Me Not, the three-year-old daughter of Tivaci, completed the morning’s gallops in 41.3.
With plenty of promising spring performers stepping out in good style, the Cambridge tracks provided plenty of encouragement as the season gathers momentum, with several Saturday contenders looking ready to make their presence felt.
