CAMBRIDGE TRACKWORK REPORT
A busy morning of gallops at Cambridge saw several of the region’s leading contenders fine-tune their preparations ahead of Saturday’s second Group One meeting of the season at Hastings.
Media World, who ran a gallant third in the season’s opening Group One for trainer Stephen Marsh, looked in fantastic order, working home sharply in 39.6. Stablemate El Vencedor is another gearing up for Group One action in the Howden Insurance Mile, completing his work in 40.2.
Others from the Marsh stable included Cambridge’s darling Well Written, who worked home in 40.6, while I Am Invincible filly Rose Aye Reign caught the eye ahead of her Friday assignment at Te Rapa, running home in 39.9.
Circus Trix (Race 9 Te Rapa) last seen finishing fourth in the Warstep Stakes, completed her work in 40.3, while last-start winner Confectionist was nicely held in 42.3. Hidden Achievement clocked 41.7, and recent trial winner Navy Dreams looked in good order, working home in 39.8, and is set to race at Hastings on Saturday.
Magic Carpet (Race 5 Te Rapa) recorded 39.9, Los Salsero who heads to Hastings on Saturday ran 40.7. Last-start synthetic-track winner Bright Thoughts cruised home in 41.6, while the aptly named Genie a Hawkes Bay Guineas contender rounded off her work in 40.5. Unmistakable (Race2 Te Rapa) stopped the clock in 41.0, and Dundeel three-year-old Perfect Pour worked home in 40.9, While another Dundeel gelding Fastdeeldun (Race 4 Te Rapa) completed his work in 40.5.
The Odyssey, who lines up at Te Rapa on Friday, joined stablemate Greenwich (Hastings Saturady), with the pair reeling off a slick 37.9. Foote Racing also produced an impressive pair in La Cadiere and Castletown Stakes winner Actionbelle, who finished strongly together in 37.6, with Actionbelle looking a good chance in the Group Three Gold Trial Stakes at Hastings on Saturday.
The James and Wellwood stable also had plenty of quality on show, with Group One winner She’s A Dealer preparing for this weekend’s Howden Insurance Mile. The five-year-old mare by Ace High looked in good order, working home in 39.1.
Hawke’s Bay Guineas Contender Excite reeled off a slick 38.9, while Young Jackson who is set to race at Hastings completed his work in 40.0. Three-year-old Sword Of State colt High Goal, who heads to Te Rapa for the 1200m three-year-old event, impressed with a sharp 39.8.
Hephaestus was nicely held in 41.8, while consistent performer Cosmic Dream worked home quietly in 42.0.
Simon Rees paired his grey gallopers Dare You and Pixie, with the pair finishing together in 41.9.
Mark Forbes also had a busy morning, pairing Perfect Habit and Shamwari, who returned a slick 39.1. Stablemate Navy Lad completed his work in 40.3, while an unnamed Time Test galloper recorded 40.0. Two Darci Brahma gallopers also impressed, stopping the clock in 39.1 and 40.6.
From the Tony Pike stable, Per Incanto three-year-old Via Fontanella looked fantastic, working home in a sharp 38.4. Almanzor gelding Eluid, runner-up at his latest appearance and set to race at Hastings on Saturday was kept quiet in 42.9, while Cosmic Pursuit (Race 4 Te Rapa) stopped the clock in 39.6.
