Cambridge Trackwork Report – 8 September 2026

Fresh off a huge weekend that saw Stephen Marsh claim both the New Zealand Horse of the Year title and the Group One Proisir Plate with unbeaten star Well Written, the stable was back to work with a strong team of gallopers at Cambridge this morning.

On the heavy front grass, Shambo Jack caught the eye with a strong finish, running his final 600m in 39.8. The three-year-old looks set for a bold return in the Listed Sir Colin Meads Trophy.

I Am Invincible filly Rose Aye Reign, a nominee for Friday’s Taupo meeting, also impressed, completing her work in 40.1. Another Taupo-bound runner, Hello Angel, who has performed well at the trials, worked home in 40.6, while raceday debutant Bourbon And Soda looked sharp, stopping the clock in 39.9.

Wootton Bassett three-year-old Royal Assett is another heading to Taupo and again pleased in her work, running home in 40.3. The Go Racing filly has finished runner-up in both of her recent trials.

Completing Marsh’s grass team was King Of The Air, who returned 40.3 for his final 600m and looks ready for his weekend assignment in the Sir Colin Meads Trophy.

Marsh also had a strong representation on the polytrack, headed by talented Zoustar gelding I’m All In, who impressed with a slick 39.9. Magic Carpet was another to catch the eye in 40.0, while To Cap It All returned 41.0, Circus Trix 41.1, and Flashback 40.7.

Clew Bay cruised home in 42.0, with Comaneci Gold nicely held together in 43.0. Savabeel mare Our Nightingale ran 41.0, Happy And I Moet 41.5, while Taupo nominee Malikia impressed with a sharp 39.7. Five-time winner Queen Zou looked good in 40.3, with I’m A Babe recording 41.0 and Imperial Rose 40.8.

Roger James and Robert Wellwood also had plenty of interest on the Cambridge tracks, with Pearling Crown joining Andrew Forsman’s Zanzibar, with the pair returning 40.0 on the grass.

James and Wellwood’s three-year-old Elegante, a filly by Hello Youmzain who has performed well at recent trials, produced one of the morning’s standout performances, sprinting home in a slick 38.0 on the polytrack.

Forsman had a quieter morning, with Artissimo joining The Last Alliance to run 39.4, while Wellesley Stakes winner Lassified looked in fantastic order, working home in 39.3.

Tony Pike produced last-start winner Astoria Brooke on the grass, with the six-time winner stopping the clock in 39.8. She looks a strong chance when she lines up in the Open Mile at Te Rapa on Sunday.

Satono Aladdin three-year-old filly Shirase, a solid fourth on debut, also looked sharp with a 39.4 and looks set to continue her form in the Maiden 1200m at Te Rapa. Recent trial winner and Taupo runner Truly Devine completed her work in 39.8.

Ben and Ryan Foote’s seven-time winner The Odyssey looks ready to launch another strong campaign, working off from the 1400m alongside stablemate Myakkabelle, with the pair running their final 600m in a solid 38.9. Both runners appear ready to kick their campaigns off at Te Rapa on Sunday.

Completing the morning’s gallops, the Dean Wiles pair Frontline Warrior and Cada Estrella produced a sharp 38.6 on the polytrack.
